  • Diflubenzuron is an insecticide of the benzamide class.
Diflubenzuron is a direct-acting insecticide normally applied directly to plants or water.
  • Diflubenzuron is considered to be of very low acute toxicity.
The mechanism of action of diflubenzuron involves inhibiting the production of chitin which is used by an insect to build its exoskeleton.
Where diflubenzuron is used for vector control in potable water, this will involve considerably less than lifetime exposure.
  • Diflubenzuron (DFB) can be determined in wheat and barley grain, forage, hay, straw, wheat middlings, shorts, aspirated grain, flour, bran and
    germ.
  • Fortification of untreated wheat and barley matrices with DFB was performed to analyze method percent recoveries for method validation and for
    sample set analysis.
  • The benzoylurea chitin synthesis inhibitor dißubenzuron was evaluated as a rodent feed-through for the control of immature stages of Phlebotomus papatasi Scopoli.
  • In the UK, sheep were treated with diflubenzuron by pour-on application. There is no label in the UK, therefore the trial was evaluated against the
    Australian label.
  • The efficacy of diflubenzuron against the codling moth, Laspeyresia pomonella L., was compared with that of azinphos-methyl in two orchards.
  • Two ben1.oylphenyl urcas (diflubenzuron and triflumufon) were evaluated at different rates and times of application in a 3 year field study to detennine effectiveness in controlling natural populations of the nce water weevil, Lissorhoptnls ol)'Zophilus Kuschel.
  • Diflubenzuron is an insect growth regulator labeled for application to pastures and rangeland to suppress grasshopper (Orthoptera:
    Acrididae) populations.
In a topical bioassay with pupae and adults of the mealworm Tenebrio molitor (Coleoptera: Tenebrionidae), an important pest in stored products worldwide, three insect growth inhibitors (IGRs) were tested: the two chitin synthesis inhibitors difubenzuron and fucycloxuron, and the ecdysone agonist halofenozide.
  • Soil microarthropods exposed to the pesticides mancozeb (240 mg per 1 m2) or difl ubenzuron (7.2 mg of difl ubenzuron per 1 m2) were studied.
  • Dichlorvos EC and Diflubenzuron formulations (WP and granule) brought about 100% inhibition of adult emergence under laboratory conditions.
  • However, in the field evaluation, effective suppression of housefly population was brought about by Dichlorvos and Diflubenzuron granule
    formulation.
  • Diflubenzuron is a halogenated benzoylphenyl urea, an effective stomach and contact insecticide that acts by inhibiting chitin synthesis and so interfering with the formation of the cuticle.
  • In September 1994, Nimocks began to research insect growth regulators and the pesticide development and registration process in the libraries of North Carolina State University. He learned that diflubenzuron had been invented in 1972 and was registered commercially in the U.S. three years later.
  • Products using diflubenzuron as the active ingredient were registered to protect timber, cattle, citrus, soybeans and greenhouse plants from pests.
Nimocks also learned that diflubenzuron had shown promise as a termite bait in research performed in Germany
