Information @ a Glance

Contents on the CD Rom

  • Metoxuron is a contact herbicide formerly used in Australia to control broadleaf weeds in carrots, parsnips, wheat and barley.
  • Metoxuron (MX) is a selective herbicide absorbed by
the leaves and roots and acting as photosynthetic electron
transport inhibitor at the photosystem II receptor site.
  • A simple and rapid titrimetric method for the determination of metoxuron, based on its oxidation with cerium(IV) in sulfuric acid medium, is
described. The method permits detection of the end-point visually, potentiometrically or spectrophotometrically.
  • The phenylurea herbicide metoxuron and its main metabolite, 3-chloro-4-methoxyaniline, can be determined rapidly in aqueous samples via extraction, derivatization with heptafluorobutyric anhydride (HFBA), washing with an aqueous bufferof pH 8, and analysis by capillary GC with electron capture detection.
  • Among the various physico-chemical processes which effect the fate of soil applied herbicides, adsorption-desorption is an important process which controls all other processes viz., the movement, persistence and degradation. Adsorption-desorption studies were conducted by equilibrating 5g of 2mm sieved soil
sample with given initial concentrations of metoxuron.
  • An on-line automated method for photodegradation studies of isoproturon,
diuron, atrazine, fenitrothion, and metoxuron by means of liquid chromatography/ mass spectrometry (LC/MS) with particle beam (PB) interface is described.
