`Fastener' means a metallic screw, nut, bolt , or stud having internal or
external threads, with a nominal
diameter of 6 mi l l i meters or great e r , in the case of such items described in metric terms, or 1/4 inch or greater , in the case of such items described i n terms of the English system of measurement, or a load-indicating washer, that is through-hardened or represented as meeting a consensus standard that calls for through-hardening, and that is grade identification marked or represented as meeting a consensus standard that
requires grade identification marking, except that such term does not include any screw, nut , bolt , stud, o r load-
indicating washer
The steps in manufacturing a screw are:
heading, thread rolling, and coating. Screws are normally made from wire, which is supplied in large coils, or round bar stock for larger screws
All types of fasteners except high tensile and special type of fasteners are reserved for SSI Sector.
Mild steel fasteners are primarily manufactured by the unorganised sector,
while high tensile fasteners require superior technology and are dominated by companies in the organized sector.
Fasteners are used in almost all engineering and chemical industries.
Automobile industry accounts for bulk of the total demand. Consumer durables and railways are the other primary users of the high tensile fasteners.
The fastener industry has been delicensed and is eligible for 100 per cent FDI under the automatic route.
