- Hypromellose (INN), short for
hydroxypropyl methylcellulose (HPMC), is a semisynthetic, inert,
viscoelastic polymer used as an ophthalmic lubricant, as well as an
excipient and controlled-delivery component in oral medicaments,
found in a variety of commercial products.
- As a food additive, hypromellose
is an emulsifier, thickening and suspending agent, and an
alternative to animal gelatin.
- It is also used in ophthalmic
solutions and as a slow release agent.
- It is widely used in personal
care products as a thickening agent and foam stablizer.
- Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is
manufactured from high purity cellulose in compliance with GMP and
HACCP.
- In codes and regulations this
product is also known as HPMC, E464 or modified cellulose.
- Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose,
belongs to the group, medicines known as artificial tears, relieve
dryness and irritation caused by reduced tear flow.
- It helps prevent damage to the
eye in certain eye diseases, hydroxypropyl methylcellulose may also
be, moisten hard contact lenses and artificial eyes, can be used in
certain eye examinations.
- Hydroxypropyl methylcellulose is
available, following dosage form ophthalmic, ophthalmic solution,
eye drops, before using this medicine, without a prescription,
carefully read and follow any precautions on the label.
