- Drying oil is a kind of
vegetable oil which drys in normal temperature. Linceed oil, Poppy oil,
Walnut oil, Sunflower oil and Safflower oil are known as typical drying
oil.
- Other kind of oils do
not dry in normal temperature. Drying oil is the basic vehicle of oil
paints. The more you incrude this oil into paints, the more the paints
have transparensy and glossy.
- Drying oil can be
increased its ablity by bleaching under the sun, heating to high
temrelature or boiling. Bleached drying oil is called "Sun-Bleached oil"
or "Sun-Thickened oil". Heated one is called "Stand oil".
- Small-scale oilseed
processing is of interest as a potential on-farm or community enterprise
that can increase income and employment in rural areas.
- Many seeds, nuts, and
kernels contain oil that can be extracted and used in cooking, as an
ingredient in other foods, as a nutritional supplement, and as a raw
material for the manufacture of soap, body and hair oils, detergents,
and paints.
- Some of these oils may
also be used to replace certain petroleumbased lubricants and fuels.
Currently,biodiesel, which is esterified vegetable oil, has found a
market niche because its use reduces some noxious exhaust
emissions.
- Painters employed
drying oils such as walnut oil and linseed oil occasionally for special
effects from the twelfth to the fourteenth centuries.
- During the fifteenth
century oil painting was increasingly used as a fine arts medium, and in
the sixteenth century it became the principal painting method in
northern Europe and Italy.
- The gradual adoption of
the oil medium came soon after the systems of perspective and
light-and-shade drawing had been absorbed into the pictorial styles of
the period, replacing the more stylized almost signlike compositions of
the earlier artists.
