- Toilet paper is
generally made from new or "virgin" paper, using a combination of
softwood and hardwood trees.Hardwood trees like gum, maple and oak have
shorter fibers that make a softer paper.
- Toilet paper, which
differs in composition from facial tissue, is designed to deteriorate
when wet in order to keep drain pipes clear. Some types of toilet paper
are designed to decompose in septic tanks, which some other bathroom and
facial tissues do not. Most septic tank manufacturers advise against
using paper products that are non-septic tank safe. Different names are
used for toilet paper in countries around the world, including "loo
roll/paper", "toilet roll", "dunny roll/paper", "bog roll", "TP," or
"bathroom/toilet tissue". There are also numerous vulgar slang
terms.
- Quality is usually
determined by the number of plies (stacked sheets), coarseness, and
durability.Mid-grade two ply is somewhat textured to provide some
softness, and is somewhat durable. Premium toilet paper may have lotion
and wax, and has two to four plies made of very finely pulped
paper.

maintain their own tree stands in order to ensure the quality of the
paper they manufacture. Temperatures at which a slurry is cooked
is ensured, too, by checking gauges, machinery, and processes. Completed
paper may be tested for a variety of qualities, including stretch,
opacity, moisture content, smoothness, and color.

situated in the market of hygienic products, which is in broadly terms
subdivided in: Consumer and AFH (away from home) tissues, Fluff products
and Clinical products. The consumer and AFH market consists of toilet
tissues, kitchen towels, napkins, table cloths, facial tissues. The
consumer market represents roughly 75% of the total printed tissue
market and the AFH market 25% of the printed tissue market. The ink
consumption for the tissue market vary enormously, depending of the end
use application but globally the average amount of ink is around 1.5 kg
ink/ton tissue. A napkin will have 100% ink coverage or more but a
facial tissue only 50% and kitchen rolls or toilet paper respectively 5
to 2% ink coverage.
