- Sodium borohydride,
also known as sodium tetrahydridoborate and sodium tetrahydroborate,
is an inorganic compound with the formula NaBH4
- Sodium BoroHydride is
usually a powder, is a reducing agent that finds wide application in
chemistry, both in the laboratory and on a technical scale.
- Sodium borohydride,
NaBH4, is classified as a flammable solid, is available either as a
white powder or as a 12% solution in caustic soda
- Sodium BoroHydride is
prepared from methyl borate and sodium hydride at elevated
temperatures.
- Commercial sodium
borohydride is 97+% pure
- Sodium borohydride is
hygroscopic and when it absorbs water rapidly from moist air, it
decomposes slowly to form sodium metaborate and hydrogen. Hydrogen
can be generated in a rapid and controlled manner by
adding an acidic compound or an appropriate metal such as nickel,
cobalt, ruthenium or platinum.
- Sodium borohydride is
an excellent reducing agent. It is used to generate diborane, as a
foaming agent, as a scavenger for traces of aldehyde, ketones and
peroxides in organic chemicals. Nanocrystalline super lattices in
gold colloid solution have been prepared by ligand-induction using
AuCl3 reduced with sodium borohydride.
- Sodium borohydride
(NaBH4) is the most commonly available borohydride, synthesized by
reacting methylborate with sodium hydride in mineral oil. It is
employed as a precursor for producing other metal borohydrides.
- Sodium BoroHydride can
be used to store and generate hydrogen gas via a hydrolysis
reaction.
- The global sodium
borohydride market is dominated by very few companies
- The end users of
sodium borohydride are industries such as pulp and paper,
pharmaceuticals, textiles, metal recovery, organic chemical
purification, and others such as electronic products and
agrochemicals
- The paper and pulp
industry is
expected to contribute significantly to the increasing uptake of
sodium borohydride in the coming years
- The paper and pulp
industry in North America is expected to increase the region's
consumption of sodium borohydride in the next years
- According to the
research reports, the global sodium borohydride market is expected
to reach a valuation of US$2.1 bn by the end of 2024 as compared to
US$1.3 bn in 2015. Between the forecast years of 2016 and 2024, the
global market is estimated to rise up at a CAGR of 5.3%
