  • A low-molecular weight carbohydrates degradation product made from starch manufactured by a process called pyrolysis.
  • Dextrin are characterized by its solubility in water, viscosity, color, pH, moisture, reducing sugar value, molecular weight distribution.
  • Synonyms of Dextrin are Starch Gum, Artificial Gum, Tapioca and British Gum.
  • Method of preparation includes hydrolyzing starch with an enzyme that consists essentially of a beta-amylase enzyme. The product obtained thereby include a dextrin, such as beta-limit dextrin.
  • Considered as semi-synthetic materials derived from starch and also from wheat, potatoes and rice used for bonding paper, wood, textiles etc.
  • White, yellow, or brown powder dextrins are available that are partially or fully water-soluble, yielding optically active solutions of low viscosity.
  • The total investment cost of the project is estimated as 209 Lakhs and cost requirement for plant & machinery includes upto 51 Lakhs. The manpower requirement of the plant is estimated to be 15.
  • As a diluting agent for pills and capsules, as well as a thickener in creams and foam stabilizer in beer. It can also be used in baked goods, candy, gravies, pie fillings, poultry, puddings, and soups.
  • Maltodextrin is a short chain starch sugar, gelatin hybrid base, (dextrin) used as a food additive. It is prepared by enzymatic hydrolysis from gelatinated starch and is usually as creamy-white hygroscopic spray dried powder.
  • Beta-limit dextrin,  a disintegrant, a dispersant and a mucoadhesive agent.
  • In many sparkler compositions in order to hold the powder together to the stick Dextrins are used.
  • These are marketed to several food segments and offer marketing opportunities with  properties of solubility, film forming, and adhesive properties enhance uses in  the new growth areas such as snacks, and whole grains.
  • British gums are used in a great variety of adhesive application. Their paste are used for envelope and labeling adhesives, as adhesive for postage stamps gummed tape and card board boxes. Found uses in the manufacture of bottled gum, machine labeling paste, poster gumming paste etc.
  • Dextrins manufacturing unit has very good scope for development in the small scale sector and especially in a developing agriculture based country.
  • To bind star formulations in fireworks, holding the powder into little balls, dextrin widely used gum.
