- Diethylamine is a
secondary amine with the molecular structure CH3CH2NHCH2CH3.
It is a
flammable, strongly alkaline liquid.
- It is miscible with
water and ethanol.
- As a liquid it has a
dark brown color due to impurities, however when distilled it is
colorless.
- It is volatile and
has a strong unpleasant odor.
- Diethylamine is
manufactured from ethanol and ammonia and is obtained together with
ethylamine and triethylamine.
- Three secondary
amines, N-methylaniline, diisopropylamine and diethylamine, were reacted
with carbon disulfide in the presence of diethylzinc to yield the
corresponding bis (dialkylamidodithio-carbamato) zinc complexes ranging
from 10 to 24%.
- Replacement of
piperidine in the condensation of benzaldehyde, p-hydroxybenzaldehyde or
p-methoxybenzaldehyde by diethylamine as the catalyst employed gave good
yields in the case of ordinary hydantoin.
- N,N-diethyl-m-toluamide (DEET) is the active ingredient in
most topical insect repellent products.
- Approximately
30% of
the U.S. population use DEET-containing products, and domestic
usage of DEET is estimated to be 1800 tonnes annually.
- It has been
frequently detected in U.S. streams (in 74%
of the streams surveyed)
in the low parts-per-billion levels
- Nitrogen containing
polymers / copolymers were prepared to act for corrosion protection.
They
are based on gly cidylmethacrylate and or diethylamino–ethyl
metha crylate.
-
Possible application of the
TiO2/UV–VIS photocatalytic process in the destruction of
nitrogen-containing malodorous compounds was evaluated.
-
It is used as a corrosion
inhibitor and in the production of rubber, resins, dyes and
pharmaceuticals.
