- Isopropylamine, also
called 2-aminopropane, 2-propanamine, monoisopropylamine, and MIPA, is
an organic compound, an amine.
- It is a base, as
typical for amines.
- Isopropylamine is a
colorless, flammable, low-boiling point liquid
- The isopropylamine
extermely flammable with flash point at -37 °C

the genes encoding the enzymes of the isopropylamine degradation

Pseudomonas.
- Isopropylamine can be
obtained by aminating isopropyl alcohol with ammonia in presence of a
nickel/copper or similar catalyst.
- The isopropylamine uses
are as the salt component to glyphosate acid for weed prevention key
compenent to Atrazine, a regulating agent for
plastics, intermediate
in organic synthesis of coating materials, plastics, pesticides, rubber
chemicals, pharmaceuticals and others, and as an additive
in
petroleum industry.
- Isopropyl alcohol it is
used in some binary chemical weapons, as a mixture called OPA which in
turn mixed with methylphosphonyl difluoride
- Isopropylamine is used
for the synthesis of herbicides .
- Isopropylamine is used
in the manufacture of other chemicals at some of its producing
plants.
- Total U.S. production
capacity for isopropylamine was estimated to be 32.5 thousand short
tons, of which 32.2 thousand short tons were available
for shipment
to off-site consumers.
- The plant in Louisiana
is estimated to have accounted for over 60 percent of the total U.S.
production.
- Eighty-five percent of
isopropylamine tonnage went to countries in Latin America or Asia, and
most of this was probably shipped directly from
plants situated in
Louisiana and Alabama.
