  • A colourless, water insoluble solid of melting point 24 °C and boiling point 259 °C. It has a floral aroma. It can be obtained from palm kernel or coconut oil fatty acids and methyl esters by reduction.
  • Synonyms of Lauryl Alcohol are Dodecanol, dodecan-1-ol,  dodecyl alcohol and is a fatty alcohol. 
  • Oxidatively stable with atmospheric oxygen under normal conditions and in the absence of light.
  • In the making of surfactants, lubricating oils, pharmaceuticals, in the formation of monolithic polymers and also as a flavor enhancing food additive Lauryl alcohol plays a major role.
  • Dodecanol is used as an emollient in the cosmetics.
  • Some Methods has been developed to prepare Lauryl alcohol by  the reduction process of  aldehydes; by the reduction of esters of lauric acid with sodium and absolute alcohol or with sodium, liquid ammonia  and by the reduction of lauramide with sodium and amyl alcohol.
  • Being a fatty alcohol having applications in the industries of agricultural, foodstuff as ingredients, metal processing, lube additive,pharmaceutical, rubber, textile, perfume and flavouring as well as synthetic detergent.
  • A chemical intermediate for the production of n-Dodecyl sulfate salts and in the manufacture of n-Dodecyl Ethoxylate.
  • ALKOPON 70 ECO is a product specially for green formulations. It is
    produced from renewable raw materials as Lauryl alcohol derived from palm kernel oil and ethylene derived from sugarcane.
  • MACOL LA 12 is a nonionic surfactant prepared from Lauryl alcohol. It is a water soluble surfactant widely used for its emulsifying capabilities, wetting and detergency properties.
  • Using glutaraldehyde as the cross-linker, esterification of lauric acid with Lauryl alcohol catalyzed by commercial porcine pancreatic lipase.
