- PAN stands for
Polyacrylonitrile is a synthetic, semi crystalline organic polymer
resin, with the structure of linear formula is (C3H3N)n.
- Synonyms of
Polyacrylonitrile are 2-Propenenitrile, Homopolymer, Acrylonitrile
polymer.
- Raw material of
Polyacrylonitrile are acrylonitrile and monomers. The production of PAN
are based on free radical polymerization of Acrylonitrile.
- It is usually used to make
other polymers like, carbon fiber and the raw material of carbon fiber
is PAN.
- PAN Chemical process that
forms three dimensional chains and it produced via the polymerisation of
acrylonitrile.
- When heated to 180 degree
celsius and above at this time PAN will be initially an open chain
structure.
- PAN is oxidized by being
heated to 300 degrees Celsius in air.
- The production of PAN based
carbon fibers having tensile strength as high as 1 MPSI and Modulus of
35-42 MPSI has become possible partially due to reliable fine
filtration being present throughout the process.
- Copolymers containing
polyacrylonitrile are used as fibers and it to make knitted clothing,
like socks and sweaters, outdoor products like tents.
- PAN fiber is widely used for
road, bridge constructions and also it can be used in concrete to
prevent crack .
- Polyacrylonitrile powder is
supplied in big bags of approximately 320kg and it can be utilized in
various areas such as solvent for the build-up of coatings and
membranes.
