  • Synthetic organic chemicals are man-made substances that contain carbon atoms
  • Different types of synthetic organic chemicals include plastic products made from polymers (small repeating molecules), elastomers (flexible rubber material), medicine, and artificial sweeteners like Stevia, Equal, and others.
  • They are used as pesticides,
    defoliants, fuel additives and as ingredients for other organic
    compounds. Some of the more well-known SOCs are Atrazine,
    2,4-D, Dioxin and Polychlorinated Biphenyls (PCBs).
  • The ultimate degradation products of any synthetic organic compound are carbon dioxide, water along with hydrochloric acid or ammonia that incorporate other elements of the original compound
  • Synthetic organic chemicals are produced by the transformation ofcarbonaceous feedstocks into functionalized molecules through one or more chemical reactions. Such transformations are accomplished at vast industrial scales and the resulting products permeate every aspect of modern society
  • The molecules produced find use largely as monomers for polymer synthesis of ubiquitous plastics, or as task-specific ingredients for a myriad of applications as divergent as paint levelling agents to food preservatives
  • Synthetic organic compounds as pesticides or biocides save the crops from insects and pests as well as their toxic effect on the living being
  • Synthetic Organic chemicals are used in the manufacture of adhesives, paints, copolymers and films, finishing agents and cosmetics.
  • Synthetic Organic Chemicals are needed although there is the environment problem associated with them ; there are enough controls in place to offset the disadvantage
