- Cellulose is the main
component of higher plant cell walls and one of the most abundant
organic compounds on earth. It is also formed by some algae, fungi,
bacteria, and marine animals
-
MCC is derived from a
special grade of purified alpha wood cellulose by severe acid hydrolysis
to remove the
amorphous cellulose portions, yielding particles consisting
of bundle-like needle-like microcrystal - Microcrystalline
cellulose is purified, partially depolymerized cellulose. A fine, white,
odorless crystalline powder.
-
Colloidal MCC is
made from microcrystalline cellulose . MCC powder as the raw material
preparation involves an aqueous solution of a certain concentration, and
then to become the colloid through a special apparatus for gelling.
-
In drug, microcrystalline
cellulose colloid can be used as suspending agent, emulsion stabilizer,
especially in syrup, antacid suspending, emulsion, nasal spray and
ointment
- In
food, it is widely used in dairy products, beverage, bakery
products, seasonings and meat products -
Fully dispersed,
colloidal MCC will greatly improve the mouth feel and impart or enhance
fat-like properties in food products. It also imparts emulsion
stability, opacity and suspension in a variety of products. It is,
therefore, commonly used in beverages, batters and breadings, chocolate
drinks, dressings, fillings and sauces, icings, low fat sour cream and
whipped toppings and desserts.
-
In cosmetic, it can be
applied in toothpaste, cream, lotion shampoo
- Colloidal
microcrystalline cellulose has been used widely in the food and
pharmaceutical industries to suspend dense particles, prevent phase
separation and stabilize emulsions.
