- MCPA or
2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid is a powerful, selective,
widely-used phenoxy herbicide. The pure compound is a brown-colored
powder.
- MCPA does not dissolve well
in water, but is soluble in organic (carbon-containing) solvents. MCPA
is usually sold commercially in solution with
organic solvents.
Physical and toxicological properties are dependent on the nature of the
solvent used.
- 2-Methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) is a widely
used phenoxyalkanoic acid herbicide and subject to aerobic microbial
degradation.
- Earthworms stimulate both
growth and activity of MCPA-degrading bacteria in soil.
- Capillary zone
electrophoresis (CZE) with diode array detection was successfully used
for the analysis of 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid
(MCPA)
herbicide in an aqueous commercial plant protection product.
- Plasmid pJP4 is an
80-kilobase, IncPl, broad-host-range coWugative plasmid of Alckligenes
eutrophus encoding resistance to mercuric chloride and phenyl mercury
acetate and degradation of 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid,
2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid, and 3-chlorobenzoate.
- The mecoprop-degrading
community could also degrade 2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid
and
2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid but not 2,4,5-trichlorophenoxyacetic
acid.
- The metabolism of
2:4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid and 4-chloro-2-methylphenoxyacetic acid
has been done by a strain of Flavobacterium peregrinum and an
Achromobacter sp., respectively.
- A novel polymeric herbicide
based on phenoxyacetic acid derivatives was prepared by the reaction of
epoxidised
liquid natural rubber (ELNR) with
2,4-dichlorophenoxyacetic acid (2,4-D) or 2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic
acid (MCPA).
- M.C.P.A.
(2-methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid) is one of the recently developed
hormone weed-killers and is freely available without control.
- The mortality and cancer
incidence of employees at a company which has manufactured, formulated,
and sprayed 2 methyl-4 chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) and other phenoxy
acid herbicides.
- The toxicity of
methyl-4-chlorophenoxyacetic acid (MCPA) containing 28% MCPA as
sodiumpotassium
salt and 72% of unknown ingredients, was tested on
chick embryos. The liver was affected by treatment with MCPA, being
green in treated embryos. |
