  • Carbaryl is a broad-spectrum carbamate insecticide that is used to control insect pests in crops, trees and ornamental plants.
  • Carbaryl is a solid which varies from colorless to white or gray, depending on the purity of the compound.
  • Carbaryl is a general use carbamate pesticide that acts primarily as an insecticide, but is also competent as a molluscicide and acaricide.
  • It is non-corrosive to metals, packaging materials, or application equipment.
  • Carbaryl is used to control a wide variety of pests, including moths, beetles, cockroaches, ants, ticks, and mosquitoes
  • Carbaryl products are used for many different applications, including fruit trees, nut trees, vegetables, rangeland, lawns, soils, ornamental plants, and around buildings.
  • Carbaryl is also registered for use on residential sites by professional pest control operators and by homeowners on gardens, ornamentals and
    turfgrass.
  • Carbaryl products are manufactured as granular, liquid, wettable powder, and dust formulations.
  • Carbaryl features a relatively low toxicity for humans, no tendency towards bioaccumulation and a low persistence in soil due to its
    biodegradability.
  • The carbaryl decision was made through EPA’s public participation process, which increases transparency and maximizes stakeholder involvement in the Agency’s development of risk assessments and risk management decisions.
  • The amount of carbaryl usage in agriculture has declined from an average of 1.9 million pounds of active ingredient per year from 1992 through 2001, to 1 to 1.5 million pounds of active ingredient in 2001.
  • In general carbaryl is slightly toxic to mammals, moderately to highly toxic to aquatic organisms and honeybees.
  • Carbaryl is degraded rapidly in plants.
