ODM(Oxydemeton-Methyl) is a broad spectrum, systemic insecticide /acaricide registered for foliar and bark treatment uses to control many insects, primarily aphids, mites, and thrips. Approximately 150,000 pounds of ODM active ingredient are used annually in the United States. The resistance mechanisms to oxydemeton-methyl were surveyed in two Iranian strains of the two spotted spider mite, Tetranychus urticae Koch. Bioassay was carried out on two strains, collected from Tehran and Rasht using a dipping method. The MRLs are expressed as the sum oxydemeton-methyl, demeton-S-methyl, and demeton-Smethylsulphon, expressed as oxydemeton-methyl. A gas chromatographic method was developed for the determination of carbofuran and oxydemetonmethyl (ODM) as well as ODM’s potential transformation product, deoxydemeton-methyl (DODM), in ambient air. A stand of red gum eucalyptus trees (Eucalyptus camaldulensis) heavily infested with red gum lerp psyllid (RGLP) (Glycaspis brimblecombei) was micro-injected at crown level with a single standard treatment of imidacloprid, oxydemeton-methyl, or a combination of both. Oxydemeton-methyl showed effective control for the first month following treatment, but showed less effectiveness thereafter. Fungicide(mancozeb and flusilazol)/insecticide(oxydemeton-methyl) mixtures were applied at times and doses commonlyused in commercial orchard practice. Their effects on photosynthesis and dark respiration were evaluated in two seasons with respect to the potential stress they impose on an apple tree using cv. ‘Elstar’. The sensitivity of the bioanalytical FIA system containing different immobilised cholinesterases for determination of organophosphorus (paraoxon,oxydemeton-methyl, triazophos)and carbamate (carbofuran, propoxur) pesticides was tested. Oxydemeton-methyl poisoning responded to obidoxime therapy only if the oxime was instituted shortly after poisoning. ODM(Oxydemeton-methyl) is currently registered for use on a variety of field, fruit, and vegetable crops as well as on Christmas trees, ornamental trees, and in forestry. ODM applications to Christmas, ornamental, and forestry trees are made by tree injection, while ODM applications for other uses in California are made via spray applications (ground and aerial) and chemigation.
