• Phenthoate is an organophosphorus pesticide of moderate toxicity.
• Phenthoate is a broad spectrum, non-cumulative, organophosphorus pesticide; a cholinesterase inhibitor with contact and stomach action;
  moderately toxic to mammals with no residual activity.
• The pure substance is a colourless crystalline solid; the technical product is a reddish-yellow, oily liquid. Both have an aromatic odour.
• It is used to protect cotton, rice, fruit and vegetable crops, and ornamental plants.
• Organophosphorus (OP) pesticides have replaced the organochlorine pesticides due to concern regarding the
  persistence and polluting effect of these compounds to the environment.
• Nowadays, organophosphorus pesticides (OPs) constitute
  one of the largest classes of agricultural insecticides used in the world and characterized by their high degradation rates.
• Pesticides are now extensively used for the eradication of various pests and to protect the crops. Organophosphorus pesticides like penthoate,
  malathion and methyl parathion are mostly preferred by the agriculturists due to their less persistence in the environment.
