  • Phosalone is a stable, white, nonhygroscopic crystalline solid with a slight odour of garlic.
  • Phosalone is both an insecticide and an acaricide, the outstanding property of which is its broad area of activity.
  • Phosalone is a non-corrosive organophosporous compound which is relatively stable to heat (upto 100'C). It is hydrolysed in solution by stong acids and alkalis.
  • Phosalone is a non systematic, wide spectrum organophosphate pesticide which was discovered in 1961 in the laboratories of the Societe des Usines Chimique Rhone-Poulenc in France.
  • Phosalone is synthesisded as follows: Benzoxazolone obtained from urea and O-aminophenol, on chlorination gives 6-chlorobenzoxazolone. This is chloromethylated to 3-chloromethyl-6-chlorobenzoxazolone, which condenses with sodium 0,0-diethylphosphorodithioate to yield phosalone.
  • The analytical determination of
phosalone, primary interest was focused on Gas Chromatographic (GO methods, principally because the majority of pesticide analyses are carried out this way.
  • Metabolism in animals is characterized by rapid elimination of phosalone and its metabolites in the urine and faeces, mainly the urine.
  • A field experiment was conducted to study the impact of application of certain commonly used insecticides and botanicals in mulberry fields on the population built-up of predatory coccinellid beetles. The results revealed that the population of coccinellid beetles was drastically reduced 1 day after spray (DAS) in the plots treated with dichlorovos (88.63%), followed by phosalone (78.56%), dimethoate (72.19%) and metasystox (68.97%) whereas in the plots treated with pungam oil there was least reduction (29.72%) followed by neem oil (35.20%).
  • Two approaches based on sorptive extraction, solid-phase microextraction (SPME) and stir bar sorptive extraction (SBSE), in combination with liquid chromatography (LC)–atmospheric pressure chemical ionization mass spectrometry (MS) have been assayed for analyzing chlorpyriphos methyl, diazinon, fonofos, phenthoate, phosalone, and pirimiphos ethyl in honey.
  • Pesticide regulatory officials and the Canadian public that Health Canada’s Pest Management Regulatory Agency (PMRA) has re-evaluated phosalone
  • Phosalone has no U.S. registrations and nine import tolerances, on almond (hulls), almonds, apples, apricots, cherries, grapes, peaches, pears, and plums (fresh prunes). Phosalone treated crops do not pose risk concerns, and no risk mitigation is necessary at this time.
