- Trichloroacetic acid
is a colorless, crystalline solid which is used in liquid solutions. It
is used in making medicines, pharmaceuticals, and pesticides.
- TCA is a
pre-emergence herbicide for the control of annual and perennial grasses
in oilseed rape, sugar beet, fodder beet, asparagus , rhubarb,
carrots, potatoes, tomatoes, peas, field beans, lettuce, alfalfa,
sunflowers, sugar cane, cotton, flax, rice, gladioli and on non-crop
areas.
- Trichloroacetic acid
is a chemical that is commonly used for cosmetic skin peels and removal
of warts, skin tags, moles, and tattoos.
- TCA - sodium is a
halogenated alkonoic acid systemic herbicide.
- Trichloroacetic acid
(TCA) is an industrial chemical that is found in nature mainly through
its use as a herbicide against perennial weeds.
- Trichloroacetic acid
(TCAA) was not only used as herbicide, but also formed in the
environment itself in many ways.
- Trade names for
trichloroacetic acid include Aceto-Caustin and Amchem Grass
Killer.
- Trichloroacetic acid
is produced on an industrial scale by chlorination of acetic acid or
chloroacetic acid at 140–160 °C.
- Trichloroacetic acid
is used as a caustic on the skin or mucous membranes to treat local
lesions and for the treatment of various dermatological
diseases.
- It is also used
extensively as a precipitant of protein in the chemical analysis of body
fluids and tissue extracts, and as a decalcifier and fixative in
microscopy.
- Trichloroacetic acid
is used as a soil sterilizer and a laboratory intermediate or reagent in
the synthesis of a variety of medicinal products and organic
chemicals.
- Three processes were
used to manufacture TCA: exhaustive chlorination of acetic acid,
oxidation of chloral (CCl3CHO) using H2O2 and hydrolytic oxidation of
PCE.
- Trichloroacetic acid
has been determined in water using liquid–liquid extraction, conversion
to its methyl ester and gas chromatography with electron capture
detection.
- Trichloroacetic acid
is also used industrially as an etching and pickling agent for the
surface treatment of metals and as a solvent in the plastics
industry.
- Available
information indicates that trichloroacetic acid is produced by nine
companies in India, two companies each in China, Germany and Mexico and
one company each in France, Israel, Italy, Japan, Russia and
Spain.
