is a desert plant with other names hoodia, xhooba, !khoba, Ghaap,
hoodia cactus, South African desert cactus
-
Hoodia
is a cactus-like plant that grows primarily in the semi-deserts
of South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, and Angola.
-
Varieties:Hoodia cunorii, Hoodia gordonii or Hoodia lugardii
-
The governments of Botswana, Namibia and South Africa requested
that all 15 species of the hoodia cactus plant be protected,
because they were concerned that the other species could be
mistaken for hoodia gordonii and harvested for use as an
appetite suppressant. For this reason propagating hoodia
gordonii requires special permitting and exporting any species
of hoodia cactus plant requires a CITES permit.
- In the last few years, hoodia has been heavily marketed for
weight loss and has become immensely popular.
-
The research
cited by many health supplement companies concerning how hoodia
works to suppress the appetite was performed by D.B. MacLean and
L.G. Luo at the Division of Endocrinology of Brown Medical
School in Providence, Rhode Island. This research was performed
on laboratory rats and involved injecting the purified p57
molecule obtained from the hoodia
- Multinational Pharma company has developed and Commercialize
Obesity Drug (P57)
- Reputed Laboratory is able to test and
certify presence of Hoodia ingredients & purity
-
Steroidal
glycosides in Hoodia are thousands times stronger than blood
sugar. Even a small quantity of Hoodia will send a very strong
signal to the brain that you are full, even if you have not
eaten, thus greatly reducing appetite. It has no known side
effects nor interference with medications.
- The top US food giant has developed a Hoodia Tea and
has plans to introduce a Hoodia Spread. Hoodia UK also are
developing a Hoodia Tea which will be available from July along
with Hoodia Fruit Juice Drink and Hoodia 5 Fruit Snack Bars
