- Metalworking
fluids or lubricoolants play a critical role in most machining
processes
- Cutting fluids
have been used extensively in metal cutting operations
- Today’s cutting
fluids are special
blends of chemical additives, lubricants and water formulated to
meet the performance demands of the metalworking industry.
- The primary
function of cutting fluid is temperature control through cooling
and lubrication . Application of cutting fluid also improves the
quality of the work piece by continually removing metal fines
and cuttings from the tool and cutting zone.
- Transformer Oil
or Dielectric Insulation Oil and other oils required for
electrical machinery and installations can be manufactured using
hydro finished base oils
- Mixing base oil
and additives produces lubricants. A convectional high
performance lubricant contains typically additive components
with high concentration of metal organic components based on the
establish rules “more calcium, zinc, magnesium and also of
course phosphor and sulfur better the lubricants”.
- Raw Materials:
Simple recipes mainly consist of components from six base oils
and some additives packages. The differentiation in the products
and applications, according to product spectrum, between 200 to
300
components. The components are available mainly in containers
and drums.
- Typical Project
& process include a rail and truck tank-car unloading facility
and a tank farm consisting of 35 storage tanks
for base oils, additives, and finished products. The blending
operation is comprised of both batch blending
tanks for small quantity batches, and a continuous inline
blender for larger quantities. The packaging and
shipping facility consists of quart, pail and 55 gallon drum
lines and a truck loading facility for bulk shipments.
- Advanced lube
oil blending plants employ sophisticated equipment and flexible
technologies to generate a great variety of products and meet
the
most diverse customer requirements.
- According to
the market a multiplicity of different recipes are produced in a
lubricant blending plant. The numbers of the different recipes
vary from approximately 60 in growth-markets up to 600 in
industrialized countries. The products are divided in 8- 22
product families and are sold in the many different package
sizes. The package
varies from a 0,5 litre bottle to the delivery of the lubricants
in tanks.
- The Indian
lubricant industry is estimated at 2.5 million kilolitres per
annum valued at about Rs 32,000 crore and is expected to grow at
4-5% annually.
- The global
market for transformer oil is expected to grow at a CAGR of 8.3
percent till 2022 and will be mainly driven by the increased
demand from the transmission and distribution segment of the
power industry.
- India occupies
fifth position in the global lubricants market after US, China,
Russia and Japan
- The transformer
oil market is driven by specifications, not simply by the type
of oil produced. The refinery process determines the oil’s
electrical, physical and chemical properties, but OEMs call the
shots. They require oils to have good purity, high dielectric
strength, and low viscosity for cooling. Oxidative and thermal
stability are also important for long product life, and
compatibility with other transformer materials is a must.
- While general
industrial lubricant occupies 40% share in the industrial space,
transformer oil used in the power sector is also a large segment
with a 40% share, according to a PhillipCapital report. “Almost
30% of industrial oil is hydraulic oil, followed by 20-25% of
industrial engine oils. Cutting oils are estimated to have a
20-25% share. IOCL is the market leader in industrial lubricants
with a market share of approximately 20% followed by Apar
Industries at 15%, Columbia Petro at 10%, Raj Lubricants and
Savita Chemicals at 8% each, HPCL at 6%, Shell at 5% and so on,”
according to reputed consultant report.
