-
Magnesium carbonate, MgCO3, is a white solid that occurs in
nature as a mineral.
-
Magnesite ore is coarse, white or light grey in colour and buff
when weathered.
-
Magnesite can be formed via talc carbonate metasomatism of
peridotite and other ultrabasic rocks.
-
MgCO3 is also used in flooring, fireproofing, fire extinguishing
compositions, cosmetics, dusting powder, and toothpaste.
-
Magnesium carbonate, most often referred to as 'chalk', is used
as a drying agent for hands in rock climbing, gymnastics, and
weight lifting.
- Magnesite can be used as a slag former in steelmaking furnaces,
in conjunction with lime, in order to protect the magnesium
oxide lining.
- Magnesite is an industrial mineral used in the production of
calcined, dead and fused magnesia as well as magnesium metal.
- Worldwide, the use of magnesium for automotive part die casting
and steel desulphurization continues to expand.
- The domestic demand for dead-burned calcinated magnesite is
especially related to national steel-industry complex that uses
over 80.0% of this commodity for the production of refractory
products.
- Calcmed magnesia is used in the pulp and paper industry, in
rayon, rubber, plastics, and adhesives, as an additive to animal
feed and fertilizcrs, in the production of transformar steel, in
the pharmaceutical industry and as nuclear-grade fused magnesia.
