- Nifedipine (brand name
Adalat, Nifedical, and Procardia) is a dihydropyridine calcium channel
blocker.
- Nifedipine is a high
blood pressure (hypertension) and migraine medication taken as a daily
pill.
- Nifedipine belongs to a
class of drugs known as calcium channel blockers (CCBs).
- Nifedipine comes as a
capsule and an extended-release tablet (long-acting) to take by mouth.
It is a yellow crystalline powder.
- In wet spherical
agglomeration (WSA) process the nifedipine particles were agglomerated
by dropping a chloroform solution containing a bridging liquid.
- In spherical
crystallization(SC) process the nifedipine microspheres were prepared by
pouring a 56°C acetone solution containing 0.5% nifedipine into 100 mL
25°C water.
- Differential scanning
calorimetry(DSC) showed no change occurred during preparation of the
nifedipine microspheres.
- The nifedipine GITS
formulation provides a once-daily dosing regimen with a continuous and
slow release of the drug into the intestinal tract, resulting in a
smooth plasma concentration/time profile.
- The modulation of
spontaneous release of acetylcholine by specific Ca2 channel blockers
was studied at neonatal rat neuromuscular junction.
Nifedipine (NIF)
a 1, 4-dihydropyridine calcium channel antagonist, undergoes
photodegradation to nitroso analogues of dehydronifedipine (NDNIF) when
exposed to sunlight.
- Both diltiazem and
nifedipine are the calcium channel blockers, which have gained
increasing acceptance in the treatment of angina pectoris, hypertension
and cardiac arrhythmia.
- Nifedipine is used
sometimes to treat migraine headaches, Raynaud's syndrome, congestive
heart failure, and cardiomyopathy.
- Nifedipine is used as a
coronary vasodilator and an antianginal in the treatment of coronary
insufficiency and angina of effort.
- 0.5% nifedipine
ointment is used in healing acute anal fissue and preventing its
progress to chronicity.
- The main function of
Nifedipine is vascular dilation associated with a decrease in peripheral
resistance and blood pressure.
Nifedipine is a type II calcium
channel antagonist, which inhibits the influx of calcium ions into
myometrial and other cells and thereby reduces muscle
contractility.
- The conformation of
nifedipine, a cardiac and smooth muscle calcium ion channel antagonist
is studied in a hydrated bilayer of forty nine
l,2-di-myristoyl-sn-glycero-3-phosphorylcholine (DMPC) molecules using
molecular dynamics (MD) simulation technique.
- NADH fluorophotography
technique used in the study of nifedipine combined with reperfusion in
experimental myocardial infarction.
The influence of Nifedipine anf
captropill on liver blood flow can be investigated using echo-doppler
technique.
- Two simple, sensitive
and economical spectrophotometric methods were developed for the
determination of nifedipine in pharmaceutical formulations.
- Nifedipine has been on
the market for 20 years.
