- Stainless steel, which contains iron, chromium, and often nickel,
molybdenum, and other elements, is an alloy with
applications ranging from household cutlery to reactor tanks for the
chemical industry - Stainless steels are highly recyclable and
typically contain 60% recycled material. In addition, the structural
shells of passenger rail cars of today's fast trains are often
constructed of austenitic stainless steel for structural strength and
improved crash protection for passengers: austenitic stainless steel
absorbes energy as it crumples rather than fractures. And after a long
service life with low maintenance, the rail car stainless steel will be
recovered, recycled and returned to service: Lasting value from
stainless steel.
- Over last 2 years India has become the largest SS
scrap buyer in Asia.
Other then the 2 large producers all other are Induction furnace using
much higher scrap input ratio. - In general, iron and steel scrap
recycling involves collection, sorting, baling, packetting, cutting,
shearing, shredding and/or sizing, possibly also cryogenic processes,
and final melting at the
steelworks - Scrap availability is a limiting factor in the recycling
of stainless steel
- In the case of stainless steel, larger pieces are
collected separately or sorted in the scrap
yard before shredding. Smaller particles of stainless steel are
separated by multiple-step separations. |
