- Sodium hydrogen
sulfide is a yellow, solid flake with a sulfurous (rotten egg)
smell. It is used in water treatment, the pulp and paper
industry, and in leather processing as a tanning agent or hair
remover (from hides). Sodium hydrogen sulfide may be used in the
making of colors and dyes. It can also be used in the
manufacture of other chemicals, metals or in ore processing
(mining) and in waste water, soil and process sludge treatment
- Sodium
hydrosulfide NaHS is colorless or yellow crystals. Two of its
crystallohydrates are known:
NaHS·2H2O, NaHS·3H2O. Solid sodium hydrosulfide is hygroscopic
and can be
oxidized by an atmospheric oxygen. It is more stable in
solutions, which are slowly oxidized in air.
- NaHS modular
production system utilizes multistage gas absorption devices in
a two- step process that offers extremely efficient sodium
hydrosulphide solution production using hydrogen sulphide and
sodium hydroxide as the feedstock
- Higher solution
concentrations including flake form can be produced with
additional processing steps that can include evaporators,
solidification and flaking equipment as required.
- Pilot plant
built Demonstrated the ability to produce 71% NaHS flake from
41% NaHS liquor using a falling film evaporator to concentrate
the 41% liquor to 71% molten NaHS and a drum flaker to freeze
the 71% molten NaHS to produce the 71% flake product
- A typical
production of an approximately 70% to 74% by weight sodium
hydrosulfide flake will be carried out in a similar manner
except that the feed solution introduced into the tower is a 60%
by weight aqueous solution of sodium sulfide at a temperature of
about 150° C. and the product solution containing about 64%
sodium hydrosulfide is concentrated in a vacuum evaporator to
70% to 74% and converted to flake in a flaker.
