- Progesterone belongs
to a class of hormones called progestogens which is the
naturally
occurring human progestogen.
- Progesterone is one of
the hormones in our bodies that stimulates and regulates various
functions.
- It plays a
role in maintaining pregnancy.
- One of progesterone's
most important functions is to cause the endometrium to secrete
special proteins during the second half of the menstrual cycle,
preparing it to receive and nourish an implanted fertilized egg.
- It is
produced in the ovaries (by the corpus luteum), the adrenal glands
(near the kidney), and, during pregnancy, in the placenta.
- Progesterone cream is
used as a hormone replacement therapy to reduce vasomotor symptoms
in
menopause.
- This cream
combined with some nutritional supplement and moderate exercise is
one of
the safest, most effective, and logical bone loss
prevention treatment known to date.
- The
major precursor of the important corticosteroid hormones
(aldosterone and cotisol) made in the adrenal cortex. They are
responsible for mineral balance, sugar control, and response to
stress of all sorts, including trauma, inflammation, and emotional
stress.
- Progesterone serves
the body by helping to build bone, proper brain function, clear
thinking and
may even help you sleep through the night.
- Progesterone was first
discovered in 1934 by William Allen.
- Micronized oral
progesterone (Prometrium) which is prescribed for menopausal symptoms,
infertility, abnormal uterine bleeding, endometriosis and amenorrhea
.
- Progesterone
stimulates the brain’s GABA receptors, those feel-good, calming
neurotransmitters.
- A 2008 study by the
Indiana University School of Medicine at Wishard Memorial Hospital
in
Indiana concluded that progesterone treatment benefited women with a
history of recurrent
miscarriage.
- Progesterone
substances used for medical uses are called progestogens. They are
available in two forms: synthetic versions and another version
derived from plant sources, which is nearly identical to the body's
own hormone & is often called "natural progesterone."
- It helps to protect
the lining of the uterus, also known as the endometrium.
- Progesterone should
only be administered under the care of a knowledgeable physician.
- Helps to normalize all
other endocrine hormonal activity in the body-may help to clear
conditions like hormonal imbalance, by helping to lower the level of
estrogen.
- In a study, 80% of
participants reported increase satisfaction with the natural
progesterone as
compared to previous therapies that used synthetic progesterone.
