- DiMethyl Phosphite is a
colourless liquid of mild odour with a melting point of < –60 °C,
boiling point of 171.1 °C, density of 1.2 g/cm3 and a vapour pressure of
1.35 hPa at 20 °C. The substance is very soluble in water with > 100 g/l
at 19.5 °C. The log Kow of DMP was calculated to be –1.2.
-
DMP is produced in a closed
system by exothermic reaction of phosphorous trichloride with
methanol according to
PCl3 + 3 CH3OH → (CH3O)2P(O)H + CH3Cl + 2 HCl
- DMP is a basic chemical
which is used industrially as an intermediate. Because of its reactivity
DMP participates in a large number of chemical reactions
- DMP is used as an
intermediate for the manufacturing of
water treatment chemicals e.g. corrosion inhibitors for cooling-water
circuits, pesticides and pharmaceuticals
flame retardants and other specialities , textile finishing products
- Dimethyl phosphite is used
for insecticides synthesis
- Technology transfer may be
tried via patent holders or technical collaboration with companies
