- Cassava is the primary food source for about 250 million
Africans, about 40 percent of the population on the continent, and
its roots are a substantial part of the diets of nearly 600 million
people worldwide.
- The results of a recent collaborative study between The Ohio
State University, and industry scientists has produced genetically
modified (GM) cassava plants (Manihot esculenta) with substantially
larger roots and more leaves. Cassava’s roots and leaves are edible
- From one ton of sugar cane some 67 litres of Ethanol is said to
be obtainable; from one ton of cassava the yield potential is said
to be 180 litres.
