  • Aluminium or aluminum  is a silvery white member of the boron group of chemical elements. It has the symbol Al, and its atomic number is 13. It is not soluble in water under normal circumstances.
  • Aluminium is the third most abundant element (after oxygen and silicon), and the most abundant metal, in the Earth's crust. It makes up about 8% by weight of the Earth's solid surface.
  • Aluminium metal is too reactive chemically to occur natively. Instead, it is found combined in over 270 different minerals. The chief ore of aluminium is bauxite.
  • Today, aluminum and aluminum alloys are used in a wide variety of products: cans, foils and kitchen utensils, as well as parts of airplanes, rockets and other items that require a strong, light material. Aluminum oxide is also used to make synthetic rubies and sapphires for lasers.
  •  Although it doesn't conduct electricity as well as copper, it is used in electrical transmission lines because of its light weight. It can be deposited on the surface of glass to make mirrors, where a thin layer of aluminum oxide quickly forms that acts as a protective coating.
  • Aluminum also can be produced from clay, although this is not the most economically feasible method at present. In addition to cryolite and bauxite, aluminum is found in feldspars, granite, and many other common minerals. The oxide, alumina, occurs naturally as ruby, sapphire, emery, and corundum.
  • Consumption of caustic soda in alumina refining accounts for 11% of global caustic production, but more than half of the caustic soda traded on the world market.
  • Aluminum borate is used in the manufacture of glass and ceramics. Other compounds of aluminum are used in antacid tablets, water purification, the manufacture of paper, paint manufacturing and the manufacture of synthetic gemstones.
  • In some applications, products made from recycled aluminum are used exclusively, while in others recovered aluminum may be a perfect substitute for aluminum made from virgin materials.
  • Because demand for scrap aluminum is strong both domestically and abroad, the principal limitation to increased recycling is on the supply side of the market - if the material could be supplied at a reasonable price firms would purchase more scrap.
  • Sodium aluminate , Aluminium sulfate, zeolites, Aluminium hydroxide, aluminium fluoride ,Aluminium Silicate, Aluminium chloride ,Poly Aluminium chloride, Aluminum phosphide are some of the aluminium chemicals
  • Aluminum hydroxide and aluminum phosphate gels are used for manufacturing vaccine adjuvants.
  • Aluminum sulfate (alum), is used extensively in the pulp and paper industry
  • Aluminum -based intermediates form a spectrum of products for making tires, dyes, paints, metal and photographic products, textiles, leather, foods, fertilizers, and paper
  • The main focus in water treatment programs is on algae control, which is accomplished by the addition of alum. Alum binds soluble phosphorus making it unavailable for algae
  • Aluminium acetate, a salt is used in solution as an astringent
  • Aluminium borate  is used in the production of glass and ceramics
  • Aluminium fluorosilicate  is used in the production of synthetic gemstones, glass and ceramic.
  • Aluminium phosphate  is used in the manufacture: of glass and ceramic, pulp and paper products, cosmetics, paints and varnishes and in making dental cement.
  • Aluminium hydroxide  is used as an antacid, as a mordant, in water purification, in the manufacture of glass and ceramic and in the waterproofing of fabrics.
  • Lithium aluminium hydride is a powerful reducing agent used in organic chemistry.
  • Organo aluminiums are used as Lewis acids and cocatalysts.
  • methylaluminoxane is a cocatalyst for Ziegler-Natta olefin polymerization to produce vinyl polymers such as polyethene
