- Viscose fabric is
a type of hybrid nylon fabric. Viscose is used to make nylon and
cellophane. Many jackets and outwear clothing are made of
Viscose.
- Rayon is the
oldest commercial manmade fiber. The U. S. Trade Commission defines
rayon as "manmade textile fibers and filaments composed of
regenerated cellulose".
- The process used
to make viscose can either be a continuous or batch process.
- The process of
manufacturing viscose rayon consists of the following steps
mentioned, in the order that they are carried out: (1) Steeping, (2)
Pressing, (3) Shredding, (4) Aging, (5) Xanthation, (6) Dissolving,
(7)Ripening, (8) Filtering, (9) Degassing, (10) Spinning, (11)
Drawing, (12) Washing, (13) Cutting.
- The production of
viscose staple fibers soared 11.4% to 2.7 million tonnes thanks to
growing demand in nonwovens, textile applications and flame
retardant product despite an increasingly unfavourable price
differential to polyester staple fiber.
- The production of
viscose rayon begins with purified cellulose. The major source of
cellulose is specially processed wood pulp harvested from pine,
spruce, or hemlock trees.
- The complex
process of chemically breaking down cellulose pulp to form
regenerated cellulose fiber, or rayon, results in a great deal of
environmental pollution.
- Viscose fibres,
like cotton, have a hight moisture regain. It dyes easily, it does
not shrink when heated, and it is biodegradable.
- An enzyme-based
process was applied in finishing viscose fabrics, which are very
susceptible to pilling because of individual loose fibres ends which
protrude from surface, and impurities and fuzzes.
- In the
biomodification process, the surface changes of viscose-woven
fabrics treated with both commercial and experimental cellulases was
evaluated using scanning electron microscopy (SEM).
- Two types of
regenerate cellulose fibres were oxidized under mild conditions, by
using N-hydroxyphthalimide as catalyst and molecular oxygen as
ultimate oxidizing agent.
- The Asian
countries account for three quarters of the world mill consumption
of viscose staple for textile applications, while Western Europe is
dominant in mill consumption for nonwovens applications.
- China is by far
the largest exporter of grey viscose fabrics, followed by Indonesia.
- The world viscose
staple fiber (VSF) production and demand has been shown to decline
over the last several years worldwide. However, when the eastern
European and former Soviet Union countries are excluded from this
analysis, world VSF production and demand have actually Increased at
a reasonable rate over the last several years .
- Australia’s
textile and yarn industry has a cost structure similar to that of
the U.S. industry
