- Quartz is
a hard crystalline mineral which is found abundantly all over
the Earth in a variety of forms
- Quartz is
used in ceramic, glass manufacturing, ferrosilicon, induction
furnace sling and electric lighting indicators and in paints.
For this purpose quartz is ground to size 200 to 300 mesh in
grinding machines
- The demand
for quartz has been steadily increasing over the years to the
requirement of ferro-silicon, silica refractory, glass and for
moulding and casting purposes.
- Total
estimated recoverable resources of quartz in India is placed at
the order of 2,402 million tonnes & India is having abundant
resources
- The export
of Quartz from India over the years has gone up substantially
from 1.16 lakh tons in financial year 2008 to 2.05 lakh tons in
financial year 2011
- The
ceramics sector account for largest consumption of total Quartz
output in India
- Quartz
exceptional qualities make it an essential use in the
manufacture of ceramic tiles
