  • In packing of Beverages and in disposable use of tea, water and juices, thermoformed disposables are widely used.
  • Different shapes are created from a process where a sheet of plastic is heated and vacuumed on top of a model/die. The die can be made up from variety of materials.
  • The raw materials required  are high impact poly-styrene, PVC, Polypropylene.
  • Requirement of machinery for manufacturing of thermoform disposables are automatic vacuum
forming machine, roller cutting machine, aluminum mould with cutting mold, a sheet plant two layer, compressor and a cooling tower.
  • A process called thermoforming is  associated with manufacturing of disposable coffee cups and blister packs.
  • Main advantage of thermoforming are lower machine cost, large parts can be easily formed and the required temperature can be up to 100 F less than other plastic production process.
  • The total investment for setting up a thermoform disposables manufacturing plant costs upto Rs.1.11 Crores.
  • Due to attractive look, low weight, ease of transportation and low permeability thermoformed
disposable cups and trays are find tremendous market in packaging of food products, particularly
ice creams which is as high as 30%.
  • US demand for foodservice disposables is projected to advance 3.5 percent per year through 2013.
  • The fastest gains are anticipated for packaging products, which are forecast to increase at a 4.2 percent annual pace through 2013.
  • Different industries using thermoformed products such as medical packaging in pharmaceuticals, catering, food packaging, soft drinks, water and tea.
  • The disposable plastic cups are manufactured by thermoforming technique. They are fast replacing conventional cups. Ice-cream and other dairy products are packed in disposable cups.
  • Disposable cups are mainly used for food items and are made out of polypropylene or polystyrene sheets. Sheets having thickness 0.35mm to 18mm are used for these items in thermo-forming machine.
  • Moreover the advantages of using thermoformed products in packing is protection to the product
packed, reduced cost of packing, light weight.
