  • A chemical compound with the formula Na4P2O7 which is a colorless transparent crystalline. It contains
    the pyrophosphate ion and sodium cation.
  • It Occurs in two forms: 1. Crystal form called decahydrate and 2. Anhydrous form.
  • Synonyms are TSPP, Sodium pyrophosphate, Sodium Diphosphate, Tetrasodium salt, Phosphotex, Anhydrous Tetrasodium Pyrophosphate.
  • Functional uses are buffering agent, emulsifying agent and as sequestrant.
  • Soluble property involves tat is highly soluble in water and insoluble in ethanol.
  • Manufacturing process for TetraSodium pyrophosphate is obtained by mixing sodium
    Tripolyphosphate and a sodium salt and calcining the mixture.
  • A product called TSPP, anhydrous is a white, powdered or granular product which is essentially
    odourless and free of foreign matter used for excellent water softening, as dispersing agent and also widely in corrosion prevention.
  • Applications in many fields includes : Thickening agent in instant puddings, water softener in detergents, used in toothpastes which removes calcium from saliva can't deposit on teeth and also as a pH buffer and dough conditioner.
  • Some common foods containing tetra sodium pyrophosphate where it used as a palatability enhancer include chicken nuggets, marshmallows, pudding, crab meat, imitation crab, canned tuna, and soy-based meat alternatives and cat foods and cat treats.
  • Tetrasodium pyro-phosphate is combined with calcium phosphates as leavening agents.
  • In chemical industry, TSPP widely used in cosmetic production and in metal cations complexing agent.
  • It should be stored in a cool, dry, well-ventilated area in tightly sealed containers that need to be labeled.
