Information profile @ a Glance
- Gin is a liquor with some level of juniper flavor
that's bottled at at least 40 percent alcohol by volume. The U.S.
government defines gin as a liquid “produced by distillation or mixing
of spirits with juniper berries and other aromatics or extracts.”
- To produce a decent (i.e.distilled) gin requires a
two stage process – first a base 'neutral spirit' is made and then this
is flavoured by through re-distillation with seeds, berries, roots,
fruits and herbs and spices – collectively known as 'botanicals'
- Small, but perfectly formed, juniper berries are a
necessity when making one of the world’s best-loved spirits
- Gin is the best natural remedy for kidney and liver
disease. Juniper berries help stop water retention in your body,
allowing you to pass more water than any other alcohol. This means that
more harmful toxins and bacteria are flushed out your system.
- Juniper oil is diuretic in nature, so it cleanses the
kidneys by removing extra water from the body
- The most usual production method for gin is to
distill botanicals, such as juniper, coriander, citrus peel, cinnamon,
almond or liquorice, with neutral grain alcohol. Making gin is like
flavoring vodka, except that botanicals are always natural.
- Canada and the USA recognize only 3 types of gin (Genever,
Gin, London or Dry gin), while the European Union recognizes 4 types
(Juniper-flavoured spirit drinks, Gin, Distilled gin and London gin).
- The IML market is categorized primarily into whisky,
brandy,
rum, vodka and gin, with market share heavily skewed towards whisky.
- Indian Made Indian Liquor (IMIL) is an attractive
consumer play into India’s large and growing bottom of pyramid
consumers. Already at a substantial ~230mn cases
($4.6bn), it is expected to reach 352mn cases ($8.4bn) in next five
years driven by positive demographics, improving consumer loyalty with
branding and upward shift from illicit liquor with conducive regulations
