Information profile @ a Glance
- Fish oil has many names. One of the mostcommon is omega-3 fatty acid
or its scientific abbreviation, N-3. N-3 fatty acids are found mostly in
fish, but are contained in other foods as well. Fish oil is the best
food source of these fatty acids.
- The primary benefit of N-3 fish oil is the reduction of blood
clotting and plaque formation which in turn can prevent heart attacks
- Different methods of fish oil extraction could be effective on the
yield and chemical composition of obtained oil.
- Fish oil could be produced by several methods which included
hydraulic pressing, vacuum distillation, urea crystallization,
supercritical fluid extraction, which all require high temperature or
high pressure in processing or reduction of moisture content in sample
prior to extraction
- The most common method used for fish oil production is wet
reduction, which involves three basic steps: cooking at high
temperatures (85-95°C), pressing and centrifuging
- Use of Supercritical Fluid Extraction
technology that offers suitable extraction and fractionation appears
to be promising for the production of omega-3 fatty acid concentrates
for the food and pharmaceutical industries.
- The omega 3 fatty acid present in fish oil is important and very
essential for elder people for reducing risk of chronic dieses and most
importantly the older consumers are keen to take preventive measures in
terms of heart, cognitive, eye and joint deterioration.
- The fish oil market is segmented into species, application and
region. By species, the market is categorized into anchovy, mackerel,
sardines, cod, herring, menhaden and others. By application, it is
classified into aquaculture, animal nutrition & pet food,
pharmaceuticals, supplements & functional food and others.
- Fish Oil Market to Reach US$1.7 Billion by 2018 due to Flourishing
Aquaculture Industry in China. According to Consultants, the global fish
oil market sold approximately 1,035 kilo ton of fish oil in 2011, a
value that is expected to rise to 1,130 kilo ton by 2018, increasing at
a CAGR of nearly 1.22% over the forecast period.
- The global fish oil market size was valued at $1,905.77million in
2019, and is estimated to reach
$ 2,844.12million by 2027 with a CAGR of 5.79% from 2021 to 2027
