- RMC
comprises cement, aggregates, water and other ingredients which are
weight batched at centrally-located plants. It is then delivered to the
construction site in transit mixers.
- Ready-mix
concrete is sometimes preferred to on-site concrete mixing because of
the precision of the mixture and reduced worksite confusion.
- A RMC
station has a computerized and fully automatic arrangement for batching
and mixing of ingredients. As many as 100 mix-designs can be
stored under the RMC
computerized control and concrete can be prepared
for any of these mix designs.
- RMC can be prepared both by mixing
the ingredients at the centrally installed plant itself or in the
transit mixers while being carried to the site. Revolving speed of
transit mixers is
controlled to avoid segregation of concrete and to

under the Control of Substances Hazardous to
Health Regulations 1994.

produced in a developed country like Japan is used by Ready Mix concrete
business there. Here in India, Ready Mix concrete business uses
around 2% of total cement production.

cement manufacturers in India who have decided to venture into ready-mix
concrete include Associated Cement Companies, Larsen & Toubro,
Madras Cements and
Grasim.
- Deliveries of
ready mix concrete can be taken directly from the ready-mix plants or
the concrete can be delivered to worksites by concrete mixer trucks, so
the use of ready mix concrete keeps worksite nuisances (dirt,
congestion, noise, etc.) to minimum levels.
- The cost
advantage to cement manufacturers who own RMC plants is only restricted
to their wafer-thin margin enjoyed by the cement industry in
general. This is offset by the better bargain offers of other RMC plant
owners due to tough competition. The proximity of the cement plant to
the RMC plant would be the most ideal situation

materials to be used for making RMC should conform to the requirements
of IS 456:2000 or relevant code
under the clause 9.2 or IS 456: 2000, the RMC manufacturer has to
guarantee the quality of concrete as he shall be responsible to carry
out the
mix design which may be got approved the purchaser.
