- 2-Cyanoguanidine or
commonly dicyandiamide is an amine derived from guanidine.
- It is a dimer of
cyanamide, from which it can be prepared. 2-Cyanoguanidine is soluble in
water, acetone, and alcohol, but not in diethyl ether or
chloroform.
- 2-Cyanoguanidine is
produced in soil by decomposition of cyanamide.
- 2-Cyanoguanidine is
also used a slow fertilizer. It is an intermediate in the synthesis of
melamine and other organic chemicals. Formerly, it was used together
with strong oxidizing agents as an explosive.
- Nitrogen lime (calcium
cyanamide) with the water hydrolysis, will be suspended from the
hydrolysis of ammonia liquid hydrogen cyanide filtering
dehydroepiandrosterone calcium oxide, calcium liquid carbon
dioxide-demineralized been cyanide, ammonia.
- Then, cyanide ammonia
in alkaline conditions under polymerization. Control in these conditions
after polymerization, and then cooling and crystallization, isolation,
drying, dicyandiamide derived products.
- Industrial
dicyandiamide content 99%, product consumption per ton of lime nitrogen
(21% nitrogen) 4239kg.
- DCDA is being employed
in a wide variety of applications. It is utilized as an intermediate for
a number of resins and
organic nitrogen compounds, such as
guanamides, biguanides, and guanidine.
- One of the major use of
DCDA was in the conversion to melamine which itself finds a wide variety
of applications in chemical industry.
- The Role of
Dicyandiamide in Stabilized Nitrogen Fertilizer.
- Dicyandiamide (DCDA) is
not produced in India by any manufacturer. This specialty chemical is
being imported from countries like U.S.A., China, Japan and Germany to
meet the indigenous demand, which is estimated to be approx. 3,000MT per
annum.
- The largest producers
are in Germany, Canada and Japan. Cyanamide is occassionally marketed in
North America in crystalline form, but primarily as a 50% solution.
- A tolerable daily
intake (TDI) of 1 mg/kg bw/day has been established for dicyandiamide
used as a monomer for food packaging material.
- Dicyandiamide was
acting as a potential failure initiator in tensile specimens. Reduction
of the amount of dicyandiamide, through the centrifugation process, did
not inhibit curing but did provide better properties due to the removal
of failure initiators.
