- Cored wires
consist of a metallic outer sheath, filled with flux or metal
powder
- Cored wire
electrodes, also simply called cored wire, are small tubes
filled with metallic or mineral powders, used for steelmaking
and casting applications. They are manufactured as wire with the
proper diameters in molding or drawing lines. They have higher
deposition efficiency than solid wire, which in turn speeds
welding tasks.
- Cored wire
allows the addition of ferroalloys and treatment of liquid
steel, especially concerning the calcium treatment. Amongst all
the processes in
secondary metallurgy, calcium treatment is certainly the most
critical one before
casting. Besides the traditional CaSi and CaFe wires, new types
of wire have been
designed for becoming the new reference in calcium treatment
- There are range
of flux cored solder wires for component attach, rework and
touch-up soldering for through-hole and surface mount
technologies.
- The use of
cored wire electrodes is increasing in parallel with the
introduction of new types of wire.
- Gas-shielded
flux wires work well when welding thicker metals. They also work
well for welding out-of-position applications. Slag removal is
easy with this type of wire. Self-shielding flux-cored wires do
not require an external shielding gas.
- Cored
electrodes can provide a broad range of metallurgical and
physical characteristics that may be difficult or impossible to
achieve with traditional stick welding. The varied demands of
maintenance welding make cored electrodes the ideal choice for
many applications.
- Alloys Cored
Wire is an intelligent alloying solution in secondary
metallurgy. It can precisely control composition of metal during
ladle treatment to produce ultra clean quality steel & efficient
use of plant equipment
- Typical core
materials may include aluminum, calcium, carbon, chromium, iron,
manganese, and other elements and materials. While flux-cored
electrodes are more widely used, metal cored products are useful
for adjusting the filler metal composition when welding alloy
steels
- Metal-cored
wire is among the solutions that can provide productivity and
time-saving benefits
