  • Propene is an unsaturated organic compound having the chemical formula C3H6 , and it also known as propylene.
  • Propylene, a light olefin, is one of the most important feedstocks for the petrochemical industry.
  • Polypropylene (PP), acrylonitrile, oxo alcohols, propylene oxide, cumene and acrylic acid are the main derivatives of propylene.
  • The UOP Oleflex process is a catalytic dehydrogenation technology for the production of light olefins from their corresponding paraffins. Propylene is obtained from propane by this technology.
  • Lurgi Methanol to Propylene technology is based on the efficient combination of two main features: 1. Fixed-bed reactor system selected as the most suitable reaction system from a technological and economic point of view regarding this specific task, 2. Highly selective and stable zeolite-based fixed-bed catalyst commercially manufactured
  • Propylene is obtained from the two main sources, as a byproduct from the steam cracking of liquid feedstocks such as naphtha as well as LPGs, and from off-gases produced in fluid catalytic cracking (FCC) units in refineries.
  • The five process in producing propylene is Steam Cracking, Fluid Catalytic Cracking, Propane Dehydrogenation, Natural Gas or Methanol to Olefins, Olefin Conversion.
  • Propylene being the word’s second largest petrochemical commodity is used in the production of polypropylene, acrylonitrile, acrylic acid, acrolein, propylene oxide and glycols, plasticizer oxo alcohols, cumene, isopropyl alcohol, and acetone.
  • Propylene is used in calibration gas mixtures for petrochemical industry; environmental emission monitoring, industrial hygiene monitors and trace impurity analyzers.
  • Propene is used as major raw material for the production of polypropylene, a versatile polymer widely used in several different grades for packaging.
  • Propylene demand is growing faster than ethylene, combined with the building of more ethane crackers rather than naphtha crackers, on-purpose technologies are being employed increasingly to make propylene.
  • The world propylene consumption is forecasted to increase by 4.8% per year in the next few years.
  • Propylene demand is expected to grow faster than supply. Propylene supply/demand conditions and pricing are strongly dependent on refinery production and the supply/demand balance, operating rates and feedstock slates in the ethylene industry.
  • Propylene demand growth continues to be strong in Asia and driven by China which is expected to account for three quarters of the total Asian growth over the next five years.
