- Many plants yield oils, but only
a few are farmed on a large scale for that purpose. By far, the
largest single oil producer is the soybean crop.
- Soybean oil is a clear yellow
vegetable oil with a neutral taste and a high smoke point
- Eating soybean oil in place of
butter, animal fats, and oils higher in saturated fat is heart
healthy and may reduce the risk for coronary heart disease
- Soybean oil contains 58%
polyunsaturated fat—52% omega-6, 6% as omega-3
- Soybean oil is obtained from bean
plant “Glycine max” and used for edible purpose
- Soybean oil is extracted from
soybeans seeds that consist 18-20% of extractable oil by weight.
Solvent extraction currently represents the most common method for
extracting soybean oil and involves cracking, heating and rolling of
the seed to extract the oil.
- Hydrogenated soybean oil is used
in manufacture of margarines or shortenings and also as cocoa butter
substitute. Brush hydrogenation of soybean oil gives a product which
is used as salad oil
- Soybean is one of the main oil
crop resources in the United States. It can be used as edible oil or
biodiesel
production. Additionally, the co-products (soybean meal, soybean
hulls and gums) are able to be utilized in
animal feeds and food additives.
- Hexane extraction is the most
common approach in oil industry and has higher efficiency, above
90%, more than conventional mechanical expelling process
- Hydrogenation is the process of
heating the oil and passing hydrogen bubbles through it, which makes
it denser, making it suitable for deep frying and food manufacturing
like margarine and other butter substitutes.
- China, United States, Argentina
and Brazil are the key producers of Soybean oil
- India’s share in global
production of Soybean Oil in 2016-17 may be around 3.5 percent.
- India was the largest importer of
soybean oil that constituted 29.89 percent of the global import in
the year 2016-17.
